2026 NJMP Team Endurance Racing Rulebook
A Drivers Meeting will be held approximately 15 minutes before the event begins to discuss equipment, the pit lane, demonstrate the pit sequence, answer questions, distribute transponders, and select kart numbers. We will not cover the full rulebook, for this reason, please ensure all drivers have reviewed this document prior to our meeting. The final page of this document will be collected as an acknowledgment from each driver the rules and format are understood.
Format: There will be a 20 minute combined practice and qualifying session for teams to learn the track, practice driver changes, and determine the starting order for the event. The race will begin with a Le Mans start(time officially starts when the first kart crosses the line), and will end when the leading kart crosses the finish line with no time remaining on the race clock. After the race NJMP gift cards will be distributed. (2 Hour Event: 1st: $450 2nd: $200 3rd: $100) (3 Hour Event: 1st: $650 2nd: $300 3rd: $200)
Teams must make at least 3 green flag pit stops during the event, this allows teams of 4 to compete evenly with teams of two. It is mandatory with each pitstop to change both driver and kart unless expressly told otherwise by the race director.
Kart selection is random throughout the entire event. Teams will be responsible for moving their transponder to a new kart with each driver swap. It is critical to secure your transponder properly and care for the equipment. NJMP will not add laps for lost transponders or kart failures. If your kart stops on track, wave your arms above your head and a replacement will be brought to you as soon as possible.
All drivers must wear a driver's suit or jacket, helmet, neckbrace, and gloves. Place the stickers handed out to each team at check-in on the right side of all drivers helmets prior to the start of the event. These serve as identification for your team and must be displayed clearly at all times.
Pit Stops: Drivers on track should signal their intent to pit by raising their hand before exiting the track. This alerts other racers, teammates, and our staff, to prepare accordingly. There are gates created by cones on pit entry and pit exit that designate a clear beginning and end to pit lane. The speed with which you can navigate pit lane entry is the maximum speed any driver should carry at any time in the pit lane, no faster than a mild jog.
After entering pit lane the incoming driver will stop under complete control in the first available pit box, turn the kart off, unbuckle, and finally get up to grab the transponder before running to the driver staging area and passing the transponder(like a baton in a relay race) to the next driver.
The outgoing driver will then have the opportunity to pick from the first available kart in either lane A or B. Once decided, the driver will secure their transponder, get in, buckle their belt, and staff will start the kart as soon as the driver's foot is on the gas. (Belts can be tightened during pit exit). Drivers must ensure they have a safe and clear path on release and exit pit lane at the appropriate speed.
When rejoining all traffic MUST stay far right when entering the track. Drivers on track must exhibit situational awareness and leave one kart width of room exiting turn 1 when needed to ensure both parties exit the corner safely.
Step by Step Pit Sequence Breakdown: Incoming Driver: 1) Signal intent to pit & return hand to wheel to control kart through the threshold of the gate. 2) Safely, under full control & without lockup, park your kart in the first available spot. 3) Turn kart off 4) Unbuckle & stand up 5) Retrieve transponder 6) Run to the driver staging area, and pass the transponder to your teammate.
Outgoing Driver: 1) Decides between driving the first available kart in either lane A or B. 2) Secure transponder. 3) Buckle seatbelt. 4) Press the gas fully on the gas and NJMP Staff will start your kart. 5) Check both ways before leaving pit lane at the appropriate pace and safely rejoin the track.
Setup & Safety: When in the pit lane, pedestrians have the right of way. That being said, it is expected that drivers/spectators keep their heads on a swivel and keep out of the way of race operations at all times.
Located directly in the center of the pit lane will be the Driver Staging Area. This is the only 100% ‘Safe Zone’ on the pit lane asphalt. Once the race begins each team is only allowed one person in the staging area at a time. It is designated by cones and green chalk. The remainder of the team members should utilize your selected team space, in the grass behind the asphalt.
If the race must be interrupted for any reason a full course caution will be displayed by waving a checkered and yellow flag. Do not pass, enter pit lane single file, park, and await further instruction. The race will resume with a single file single file rolling start. Drivers are able to accelerate at the drop of the green flag but cannot initiate a pass or ‘jump out of line’ until they pass the Start/Finish line.
If the pits must close for any reason we will wave a black flag at the top of pit lane to communicate, it will be dropped when pits reopen.
Driving Standards and Passing: It is always the responsibility of the passing driver to initiate a safe pass attempt. In order to establish position a driver must achieve significant overlap on the driver they are attempting to pass BY the time the leading driver turns in for a given corner. Position being established simultaneously to turn-in occurring will consistently be called in the favor of the chasing driver. Once position has been established both karts must leave at least one kart width of racing surface for the other until the attempt fails or is completed. It will always be illegal to run a fellow competitor off the track to complete a pass. While we encourage the art of defensive driving to maintain a position, blocking will not be tolerated. Drivers may make one defensive move, but may not make a second reactionary move. The blue flag will be used for lapped traffic in position based races. Race others how you want to be raced.
Penalties: Actions that will be penalized are as follows; Passing under yellow, unsportsmanlike conduct, reckless driving, dive bombing or turning down, blocking, consistent(intentional) bumping, incident responsibility, or avoidable contact. Furthermore, neglect for safety, excessive aggression, or corner cutting will never be accepted and may result in the immediate loss of driving privileges. A scenario on track involving two or more karts where sole or majority fault cannot be laid upon a single driver may be ruled a Racing Incident.
Rolled up Black Flag(Black Stick) pointed at the driver = WARNING - STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING!
Open/Waved Black Flag AND your kart number on the number board = DRIVE THROUGH PENALTY!
Drivers have 3 laps to serve a penalty once signaled. If penalties occur in the closing lap(s) of a session the driver in the wrong will be scored behind the driver they wronged. If a driver blatantly ignores a penalty they will be scored last in the session and parked for the evening.
Generally, if you make a mistake and you allow the driver you wronged to regain their position you can ‘clear’ a pending penalty. Repeat or intentional infractions will not be afforded this privilege.
Cautions: Local yellows will be used regularly during competition events. NJMP, like every official racing series or venue, mandates NO PASSING under any variety of yellow flag. Drivers are required to decrease speed(relatively) by lifting or checking up if needed, and increase alertness. These actions work to ensure all parties involved in the incident, staff working on recovery, fellow competitors, and you, are able to safely navigate the scenario. Drivers that make passes under yellow, or intentionally disregard safety when passing through a yellow, will be swiftly assessed a penalty.
Safety Rules & Community Commitments:
All drivers are expected to always ‘have a way out’ of whatever scenario that is unfolding to protect themselves and their fellow competitors. The vast majority of the time this way out is simply using the brakes to check up.
Instead of just focusing on what you are doing, utilize situational awareness to determine what those around you are doing & predict their inputs/moves. The further you look down the track the easier it is to make proactive decisions to not only mitigate safety risks, but capitalize on opportunities and make passes.
Team Managers/Friends/Family are allowed in the GRASS ONLY in pit lane, but can assist with communication/logistics/provide support ONLY IF, they have signed the waiver.
Drivers & Spectators may freely enter and leave the pit area, but must close the gate behind them EVERY TIME.
There is absolutely no smoking or vaping of any kind allowed in the pit. Anyone who desires to engage in these activities must exit the gate.
All drivers and spectators are expected to operate with respect and sportsmanship on and off the track. Behavior that contradicts or threatens the community based environment will not be tolerated.
The Race Director holds the right to determine if a racer is not healthy enough to continue racing.
Only the drivers should be in any area designated as a hot zone. Furthermore, only drivers should address any concerns or problems they have with the Race Director. This should always be done at an appropriate time and with respect.
All drivers will be held responsible for any damages that may incur during their league sessions. The NJMP Karting Protection Plan is highly recommended for any inexperienced drivers. Protection plans can be added at the time of registration or in person.
